I love the way the Azule Rose potatoes are looking with their purple tinted leaves starting to come up. And I would like to know more about these potatoes. I'm interested in anything you might be able to tell me, flesh color, productivity, plant height, etc.
I also want to learn more about it's grandparent (?) Azul Toro if you have insight to share.
Thanks!

Juli,
You received I think....
Azule Rose is a daughter seedling of Blue Rose and Blue Rose is a cross of Nordic October and Azul Toro. I used the spelling Azule rather than Azul because I did not want a direct translation of Spanish/English. Azule can be pronounced Ah ZUL or Ah ZU lay but I say it the latter.
Azule Rose was a first year seedling last year...therefore I don't have a lot of information about it. I did not pay too much attention to it as a plant until I dug the tubers and my information is on the bag in storage about the vine. I do rather like the tubers of Azule Rose because the shape reverted back to its g. grandparent...Negro Y Azul having a slight fingerling shape. The skin is purple/blue and the flesh likewise...although not as blue as NyA.
I sent 90% of the tubers out to cooperators this year of this hill. I will depend on a consensus of descriptors from my customers simply because varieties react differently in various climates and the flesh intensity as well. I have sown TPS of this clone to further the color/yield investigations. I also seeded full sibs of Azule Rose to select even more variations on a theme.
I only hope that the flowers on Azule Rose will be half as pretty as the Blue Rose. The inbreeding for the blue coloration of the foliage is what I hope is happening to Azule Rose. Photos always welcomed.
The tuber you have of Azul Toro was heavily sprouted out...it will produce lots of stems and lots of tiny tubers because of those many stems. The shape of Azul Toro will be more perfect...oval round than the Azule Rose...which will look a tad more primitive...but that is what I want. I have grown 7 generations of the Azule Rose's pedigree, and it may be a winner.

I wish that somebody by the name of Gray could cross Azule Rose to Bora Valley. It would be a cool cross and the tubers would be trending to an enormous size. If he doesn't...I will try.

Thefuture,
I keep pictures at different stages to help me remember after the season is over if i did not notice something. That is the case when Amey was in bloom and the only blue in bloom was Mule skinner blues so I assume if a Amey X throws a blue potato it might be the dad.
So for sure will be posting pics when Azule rose gets to bloom. I have some other emerging this week Magic Molly...

Thanks to everyone for the kind words about my work. I am too tired to hardly appreciate it. But thanks again and again in case I am remiss.
I have a PowerPoint presentation that explains each step of crossing potatoes. But I am way too busy to try to figure out how to put this online.
I am still trying to get the orders out from the website and I am busy carting plants to places to plant out. Wish I didn't have to drive all over the place....Rush hour traffic fatigues me. I've got a couple of busy transplanting days lined up and I should quit trying to post so much.

TW no problem. I already looked at the crossing instruction on rebies website daughter of the soil. I will try a cross. Problem may be that bora valley is flowering and azule rose is not. May have to wait til next year to cross. I have planting dates written and will record flowering dates so i can time the two. Gray
