Hello, I am new here but I am looking for Big seed potatoes, colors and stuff nobody has seen, I sell to alot of high end resteraunts. I would just as soon write a check to you Tom than the other potato sites. I dont want TPS I need instant results. Colors and taste are very important.

I have tons of emails, forum topics, mail, phone messages, potato harvesting, etc., that go largely unanswered at times. I may read a message but don't respond to right away, thinking I will get back to them. Then I loose track of them. December is a tough month to get things done. I need to go through 9,678 emails to see what to get rid of
I have been struggling with a friend to get a web site going that will focus on potato tuber sales, TPS sales, tomato seed sales, and some other new world seed crops. I was going to have it going by the first of December, but apparently, even the best webmasters have difficultly getting sites formatted.
I still don't know how to make a pdf document load to export. I worked for weeks trying to load openoffice.org. I get called away from the computer often and am made to feel guilty if I spend too much time typing things.
I have lots of TPS, but many of my potato tubers will be available only as samples. I did not have the health and time to plant what I wanted during the past season. Some of my potatoes were under water by the time I got done with the tomato seed extraction. Some potatoes froze in an unheated building when the temps got done to 10, as I couldn't justify driving the five hours to save them.
I spent too many hours planting one or two tubers of each of the thousands of potato clones, instead of hundreds of hills of just a few. Trying to put together a list of how those go into my sampler boxes is yet to be determined. I will be able to get out plenty of one pounders and 8 lb samplers but probably few few larger quantities.
Just recently my wife was told her job was being outsourced to India, and this was after months of rumors. We will get though this, but I know that no matter how many seed sales I make; it won't make up the difference. I am pressing to push the research angle of it so that I can share a least a smattering of what is fun to me. Food security, seed diversity, and sustainability will be concerns to everyone soon.

Sorry to hear about that Tom. I've spent this week preparing for an investor demo for the start-up that I work for. Our current funds will not get us through next year, so its either find investors or start sending out resumes. Given the state of the economy, there's not very high probability of success for either. Like others who pop in here, I sure wish you and your wife the best in the coming year. May your health take a turn for the better. To 2011! xnn

Darth, In my opinion size of a potato is not the best attribute of a good potato, flavor is. For instance look a this image of some of Tom's varieties: left is AKT, center is SvG... cut open for my taste test: After cooking... The first is Adirondacksen x Kern Toro, the size I got was 3.5" long probably by 2.5" in diameter, might get bigger in the next generation. Flavor was good ok for boiled but for french fries was much better. Plus the red skin is so bright that looking at them alone was a treat. Now Skagit Valley Gold, the size is 2.5" round potatoes, very productive and boiled was so good. I imagine a good chef can taste this one and recognize its potential. They not only tastes good but also looks stunning and cooks like in 3 minutes. I am sure a chef can come up with an array of dishes to serve them. If I can go to a restaurant and get this as patatas bravas I would certainly pay more to have them. Obviously now I have them at home Wendy

Wendy, you will have to quit making the Skagit Valley Gold sound so good. I claimed 5 minutes in boiling water and it's done and now you claim only 3 minutes. You also write about the super gold color and flavor. Now everybody is going to want it. Good thing I have lots of hybrids with Skagit Valley Gold, a diploid that is mainly S. phureja in its backround. But thankfully, I have Skagit Valley Gold hybrids times Skagit Valley Gold hybrids in TPS. This group of crosses will be the one I promote more than any other TPS. You have nailed the reason why it should be a winning series of potatoes for flavor, color, fast cooking times, etc. I am including a few links that talk in general terms about the advantage of having phureja in the breeding program. Mayan Twilight in the Uk which has S. phureja in its background..... pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jf0717900www.branston.com/news/story/five_year_old_lucy_names_new_potato_variety/

If everybody wants it after reading my post then is well deserved. Lucky for us you have plenty of TPS to offer. I think maybe 3 mins was my perception cause I did not time it, fork test only, but it does cooks fast! I will stop making Skagit Valley Gold sounds so good when I find the next one to talk about LOL. How's Skagit Beet taste like? Kidding...

Cheked my seed supplies in preparation to plant yesterday. I only have 3 seeds left of My Skagit Valley Gold cross. Looks like I need to order more...which means suggested others to go along with it...suggestions?

Future, are you planning on sowing seed this early? If you are let me prepare a special seed pack for you. I will go thru my Skagit Valley Gold crosses to find one that is very gold/orange inside. I have a number of them that are not named yet and some berries yet on those....and if I find one that meets my standards I will name it Future Gold. The TPS from Future Gold might lead to a range of gold types that could be named (Future Gold in the present tense)....and of course, that naming would be up to you.
I was thinking of Clarence Hill Gold but I think he won the bronze? It could be named Bermuda Shorts Gold, Golden Bermuda Triangle, Present Gold, Forever Gold, Bermuda Gold...thing is.....the variety named has to find its genesis on the island. From Seed to Tuber.

This is sheer genius! I love it.
Yes, we plant from September all the way into March and I am ready to go now.
I have some family in the US until the 17th or else we can arrange direct mail to Bermuda. Let me know what else you have ready at this time - another 5 - 10 types would be great - and I can arrange money transfer.
