I was reading a partial abstract about breeding for red or purple flesh in potatoes, and it stated that purple-fleshed progeny were obtained from red x white crosses where the white-fleshed parent harbored the P pigment gene in juxtaposition with the nulliplex recessive state of the I gene (i.e.,iiii). Do any of the online potato vendors like Ronniger's have a white potato with such a gene juxtaposition? It seems exciting to be able to breed a purple potato from a red x white. Can a purple potato be grown from a red x red? Btw, the Purple Viking must have some interesting genetics in order to have both red and purple skin. I wonder what types of progeny would result crossing Viking Purple with Skagit Valley Beet or Azul Toro or perhaps crossing Viking Purple with Cranberry Red.

Too much to respond to for now. Later, obviously I'm not in any hurry, and planting season is many months away. Plenty of time for thoughts and chat.
