In July I sowed some TPS from Tom, and now I have (I think) three seedlings, and I wonder if I can keep them (alive) over winter. They probably didn't tuberize yet, but I'll have to dig them soon, as I am expecting the first frost in this month. Of course I'll sow more TPS in February/March to transplant later, but I'd like to use the current batch too.

Just to make sure, I'm posting one of the pictures already on TomatoVille (taken in September, of course) :

Yes, Gun, I saw that post at TomatoVille.com.
Two things:
It is best not to use any outdoor soil growing TPS. Too many bad things can happen...scab, rhizoc, wilts, etc.
Those seedlings could be brought indoors and the seedlings, albeit not growing so large ......will set tubers that could be harvested within a month or two.

Hi. Just a couple questions to curb my curiosity..
Are those the surviving seedlings from several hundred sown seed or just a few dozen? Does using field/garden soil put too much selection pressure on too few seedlings whereby all of them could succumb leaving no mini tubers to grow out in Spring to produce large amounts of TPS? But then with sufficient seed, recurrent mass selection could begin?
I'm about 2/3rds of the way through Return To Resistance.
BTW, Tom, are you still doing the 6-potato, 8 lb. sampler I saw on localharvest dated 2008.

Are those the surviving seedlings from several hundred sown seed or just a few dozen? I sowed one packet/cross of Tom's TPS (10 I think) and possibly more of Medbury Gardens', so 3 + 1 seedling isn't that bad, but I think it will be better in early spring when I also sow pepper seeds and have to monitor them.

That is my plan.
Once I get my potatoes harvested, I will know more about that matter, myself.
