As a rank amateur let's say I'm interested in putting together, just for fun, a list of up to 12 very GENE DIVERSE common-to-less-than-common open pollinated potato cultivars for the purpose of producing seed to be grown in the temperate area of mid-america. Let's start with cultivars that already have an acceptable yield, and are day neutral. TPS production in a cultivar is not a necessity as it can be forced with tomato rootstock. I won't pin down skin and flesh colors or cooking type at this point assuming that can be shaken out in later generations if indeed the list is diverse enough. If there is a compelling argument for adding 1 or more short day or long day cultivars then do so but the reason should be stated.
To anyone who cares to reply, what cultivars would be in your wish list? It can be just 1 or it can be up to 12.
