Just finished his essay in "What if Pizarro had not found potatoes in Peru, the humble roots of history" and found it fascinating. Having read "Lost Crops of the Incas", its not a given that this particular crop would have necessarily been taken out of the Andes. Dr. McNeill's counterfactual is really thought provoking on how this one crop was crucial in many historical turning points over the last four centuries. Just wanted to drop a line here and give it a Thumbs Up. BTW, the Taters and Maters are do great so far this year. My wife has picts posted if anyone would like to take a look. Garden 2010
