Well, shucks, Bud, you're the one who described this forum as: You can talk about anything here. What happened was that I had a question that had to do with plant breeding and genetics in general, I used melons as an example because that was that crop that piqued my curiosity, and then our resident melon expert spoke up. And I learned stuff I didn't know before! And I have another question, that involves another crop, but I happen to know that you'll know the answer to it, because you had to deal with the same issue with your potatoes. I won't mention the mystery crop, so that we don't go off topic again.

By all means I dont' want to hijack a board . I will try to keep the melon talk to a minimum. It is hard for us melon heads to make friends.....the d**ned crop is so hard to grow sometimes that there arent' too many melon fans out there.

I had a great melon at the Heritage Seed Library. I shared it with the lovely Vickie and Helen at the Garden Organic facility. They saved the seeds, of course. I didn't even ask what variety it was, since i am terribly ignorant of the names.
But I am afraid I make a lousy student

Hello DarJones, Sorry it has taken me so long, but I dropped the seed in the mail today. I sent along 2 orange fleshed (one F1 and one F2), one white (f1) and one "heirloom" hami that i haven't grown out yet. It is supposed to be a storage melon, so it may have low sugar when you pick it and develop more sugar during storage. Like I said I haven't grown it yet. Our old production guy brought it back from China about 5 years ago. Jonny

Excellent news. I wasn't sure if I had put enough postage on there. Jonny
