Hello, I live in Yuma, AZ and am involved in the vegetable seed industry. I am an amateur breeder of watermelons and cowpeas. I stumbled upon this site doing some research on tomatos and Tom's work. I hope to learn as much as possible from Tom and get some tips on growing tomatos in zone 9/10. I struggle with fruit set and keeping plants alive in our heat.
Thanks to all, Jonny

Welcome to the TaterMater forum I post when I can, but am busy with seed extraction this time of year. Imagine that I bought a box of Ziplocs (200 ct) and realize that I have 187 sheets of paper drying in the spare bedroom that need to be packed up. I will have to buy more tomorrow. I usually let the sheets of seed dry for about three days before zipping them. Part of what is slowing me down is that I want to take pictures of the tomatoes with that sheet of paper showing the pedigree, fruit information and filial histories. Don't worry about being in too hot a place. I did breeding work across the state line near Indio, CA., for a few years and about 15 years in Bakersfield, CA. My work has been only potatoes and tomatoes lately but I have extensive experience with corn, wheat, soybeans, etc. Although I established the tatermater.proboards.com to be a venue of my work, by all means ask some questions, leave a few words of wisdom, and if possible...criticize the administrator. The fact that you are involved in the vegetable seed industry is good for this site. Being an amateur breeder of watermelons and cowpeas as you are, just adds to the mix of members/guests here.
