Video games not only serve to distract or entertain, they also work to teach. There are many testimonies around the world that claim that they learned a certain language by frequently playing video games.
With this example we can see that several people are learning from video games, which is why a company specialized in technology and consulting wants to use this form of entertainment but to train its employees.
With an analysis within its Smart Start France Mobile Number List program, to find out what the new generations are now interested in in a company, the firm called Indra chose video games and eSports to train them by speaking their language.
“The company adapts to new generations and also helps us present a value proposition and generate a commitment,” Katia Muñoz Caballero, manager of Talent Management and Commitment at Indra, said in an interview with Forbes Mexico.
The firm uses video games for the training of younger professionals as a work team, as well as for communication in the so-called VUCA environments, in which volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity are common.
According to information from Forbes, in each session there are groups of 30 people who recently joined. After a brief explanation of what the day consists of, the young people prepare and do some first tests individually to later move on to the team competition in the video game Overwatch.
“In the end, the participants make a collective reflection on how what they have experienced and learned can be transferred to their working lives,” said Katia Muñoz Caballero.
With participation through video games, the company seeks to train its entire newly hired workforce, which totals 1,600 workers.
"We launched the program last year and in a period of six months we have already trained 370 employees and every week we are adding 30 more."
So far Indra is only in Spain and the possibility of taking it to more countries where they have operations has not been ruled out.
For Caballero, e-Sports or video games help to “hook” young professionals, who express a high degree of satisfaction with this training and show great motivation.
“Proof of this is the success of the Indra team in the first e-Sports league for companies, held at the end of 2018, in which a couple of professionals from the company were the winners,” he commented.
Another objective of Indra is to generate its own video games on a global level that can help with training. “We are having a lot of success. It is one of the best courses that works best and has a 98% recommendation,” said the Talent Management and Commitment manager at Indra.
