I grew 3 Golden Crabapple plants last season, all produced well despite it being cool and very wet for most of the season. I thought it a lovely indeterminate cherry tomato, good flavour and nicely sweet. Best flavour was from the two smaller types. As far as I remember leaves were regular type. I wonder if some are throwing more Silvery Fir Tree type leaves? Description from New World seeds 2012 "Large gold cherry/salad . Has Silvery Fir Tree in its pedigree. I like this one for looks, flavor, and yield."

Thanks for the pictures and the glowing remarks about the flavor of the Golden Crabapple. Is that photo taken of all the segregants?
As it turns out the clone selected to have the moniker "Golden Crabapple" just happened to be the one that did not have the recessives I might have wanted....silvery fir tree foliage, woolly traits and stripes. I based my selection on a clone that did not carry those oddities, but for flavor alone. Perhaps flavor was negatively linked.

I am glad you are saving your favorites. Since the variety Pineapple is involved in the pedigree...I am not surprised of the flavor blends. The gold color was dominant in the seed I passed along but the alternate pinks/reds are showing up as recessives. Interesting that you compare my Golden Crabapple with John Downie crabapple....here is a fair photo of the coloring of the little apples...

Lol well the little red one did, more so when the crabapples are really ripe just before they fall, such a gorgeous orangey red on the sunny side.

I grew one plant from Golden Crabapple last year and got an orangey-red cherry, regular leaf, indeterminate. Had a fruity hint but not very sweet flavor and was particularly popular with a friend that prefers tomatoes that aren't sweet.

Hope I can get some seed back of plant 5, 4, and 1. I like the sepal variation.

Jayb. I have some great tomatoes picked today for seed extraction and a trade of a new one for a sample of the golden crabapple is likely in the works
