Nice Wendy, they look good. What size do you let them grow to before transplanting and will these be in containers or soil?

Nice Wendy, they look good. What size do you let them grow to before transplanting and will these be in containers or soil? Search "TPS growing 2011" I have a post with pictures that year. Badically 6 to 8 weeks about 4 inches. Once they get the first set of true leaves I transplant them and they grow fast.

Thanks JayB. What are you growing this year? I've a few mini tubers from last year which are just starting off in modules. Tps I've sown too many I think, there are quite a few of my own saved seed or crosses I've made, plus a selection of Tom's. Some of the varieties have been germinated better than others and some not at all. They have been in nearly a month so...frustrating! The earliest sown are getting a bit leggy waiting for me to get in gear and plant them on. I've several crosses using Hod Dog and Snookie (both home bred long fingerling types), I'm hoping for some long coloured fingerlings from these, so eager to see how these develop. I'm also excited to have 6 Azule Rose x Sweet Tater seedlings. I'll try and do a list.

I'm also growing too many; fifteen lines germinating merrily on the widowsill, half a dozen from ordinary tubers, another ten from last year's TPS tubers. I nearly broke my back filling the last raised bed, so I'm glad it stopped there!

Wendy, you have BLUE ROSE? That makes those TPS siblings (or half siblings) of AZULE ROSE.
All my AZULE ROSE TPS plants last year were very dark blue tubers with dark foliage. The TPS I am growing from my most fertile AZULE ROSE TPS plant from last year is segregating far more for non-blue stems.

Oh, and I have germination on a few seeds 8 weeks after seeding. AKT and BLACK IRISH. Overall germination % was low, but a few seeds took a long time to germinate.

Wendy, you have BLUE ROSE? Nathan, I don't have Blue Rose. This is from TPS that Gardensup got from a Blue Rose selection that he grew in Canada. Dave sent me TPS (now F2 BlueRose?) from a first year tuber he selected "Blue Rose #3" that had pink flowers, large tall upright plant that produced red skin with pink flesh potatoes of large size tubers, waxy texture, good taste, one plant produced 4.3 lbs. The Blue Rose TPS he said it was surprising as he got some blue fleshed but mostly yellow fleshed and this one red/pink. Blue Rose was a from a cross of Azul Toro & Nordic October. This year I didn't select TPS for cold-resistant plants (I babied them all indoors) but with that I lost few to damping off. So I guess these surviving plants, unintentionally, are more disease resistant!
