Would you be willing to share some of those with me? I bought a bunch of seeds from Tom and for some reason none of them are sprouting I'm partial to yellow flesh varieties so maybe Lump D'Oro or SVGX?

Which varieties did you buy and what conditions are you using to start them, Chris? Maybe we can figure out the problem and get yours going.

Sometimes germination can take as long as a month, sometimes longer depending on seed age, variety and how much the natural seed coat inhibits germination.

So I tried a few different methods and they all failed. I bought chaposa and maris piper. I originally tried to just put them into a 72 cell tray with a plastic dome on the top and a heating mat. Temp sensor showed it was at about 68 deg F and i kept it humid. I waited almost a month and saw no activity. The seeds swelled up but wouldn't germinate. I then tried putting them in a wet paper towel + plastic bag. That sat for almost 2 weeks with no activity either. I took the last 5 seeds I had and threw them into the freezer in a last ditch effort to see if they'll germinate when I take them back out. I'm stumped. I've had almost no issues over the years germinating seeds but these are proving extremely stubborn.

Did the seeds remain wet? I germinate seed under 1/8" to 1/4" of very fine germinating mix in a 72 cell tray. I keep the soil moist and covered with plastic, and my basement is at about 58F right now. I always mist and water from the top on germinating seed, and once germinated, only water from the bottom of the tray. My earliest this year took 6 days (last year it was 4 days). After 13 days, I have approximately 66% germination overall. Typically, I get about 90% germination within 30 days.
Were the Chaposa and Maris Piper from last year's seed (2015?). If so, there will be more germination inhibitors present than in older seed.

Yeah I kept them wet for weeks without anything happening. I split the seeds with my friend Kris who kept them under plastic as well and had a heating mat that kept the temp at 70F and his also didn't sprout. I honestly don't know if the chaposa and maris piper seeds were 2015. It's whatever Tom Wagner sent me . I did notice that some of the seeds in my paper towel experiment are a little slimy. That might be the germination inhibitors you're talking about I'll keep the seeds wet for another month and see if any of them decide to germinate.

Chris I dont know yet if any of those segregate for Yellow flesh I might be able to send you a very small amount of LNX2010 TPS which is the original TPS that gave me LDO and its sister both yellow flesh. I got Amarilla TPS from Curzio I can share small amount too. So far also my TPS hasnt germinated. Send me a PM...

So I checked out Curzio's site and he suggests that I give the seeds a 122F water soak for 25 mins to get rid of the last remaining germination inhibitors. I did that yesterday and I'll post the results in a few days. Wendy - I sent you a PM. I'd be interested in any/all of what you can share I have a small garden and a friend with a small organic farm. We're only experimenting so little amounts of seed are totally fine

You're at just about the right temperature. Could be slightly cooler, but it shouldn't make that much of a difference. You will probably get some germination if you wait long enough. I've had poor germination over several sowings from Chaposa, so you might not be doing anything wrong.

I won't throw away the trays. I've had some stranglers germinate way later in the past.

Stunning list Wendy, looking forward to following your progress.I don't think I've grown any or have any tps on your growout list, so doubly looking forward to your results. Particularly BigDog X as I love long tubers. Good growing
