I am going to promote the Magic Dragon TPS (true potato seed) on two websites this year. The level of late blight resistance is phenomenal and because it is a diploid...all the seed is hybrid. The origin is from my classic Skagit Valley Gold x unknown diploid = Skagit Magic x bulk diploids = Magic Dragons. The TPS is from many half sibs to full sibs and represents many skin colors and flesh colors. Since the row of about 300 mixed clones were next to Skagit Valley Gold and many other new and old diploids, this year's seed is valuable for many traits. Especially important is that the Magic Dragons (for the most part) are in the ground yet for yet another round of selection pressure against soil rot and freezing. I sent some TPS out early to test the germination and here is a sample plug of the Magic Dragons...photo taken just hours ago.... My cooperator was offered $5.00 for that plant. He did not take the offer up, however. The mini tuber is very reminiscent of the original Skagit Valley Gold....round and very yellow. The older leaves show the yellow pigmentation in the leaves that are linked with deep yellow flesh. I have noticed that the Skagit Magic seedlings start out rather compact with multiple stems and lots of stolons, perfect for transplanting purpose. I just packed up some little zip lock bags of this TPS for this years orders, anticipating the new season's web premiere.

Sounds very interesting I'm very interested in late blight resistant cultivars because this is my biggest concern here in my spot. I can't wait till you open your shop I have one further question Tom You very often mention leaf color or stem colour linked to later colour of skin and flesh. Where I can find some Information on that? Or is this your special experience just you know.

Determining flesh color, skin color, by leaf colors has been largely my experience.
I will be announcing the opening of two websites very soon when all the glitches are removed. Many of the TPS lines will be blight resistance or will segregate for that trait.

I received my first order a couple days ago......I guess, if I wasn't hallucinating or something, I've got two more orders on the way.......I had a Magic Dragons plant from gift seed from Tom last year that did manage to give me a couple of nice little round tubers, in spite of the very hot, very dry summer.....

Has anyone here grown Magic Dragons already? What should I expect for segregation?

I'd be interested to hear too. I've a few seedlings growing, some white stemmed with green leaves, others with red looking stems with dark colour in the leaves.

I sowed all the seeds you send me and just 2 had germinated and both seem to have dark stem. One seedling is too little to tell for sure. Good thing you got the light stems~
Post pictures if you have some...I am just too curious now! If I get a red flesh I am happy too. Well of course if the flavor is good.
