I've noticed that very high brix tomatoes tend to form longitudinal cracks. Is brix and cracking positively correlated? Would it be possible to breed a super sweet tomato that does not crack? For comparison, Sungold is a super sweet variety and is very susceptible to cracking. I have a SunLucky line from Keith that is very high brix and very susceptible to cracking. I might be able to answer this question after growing out the sweet orange variety. Thin skin is an obvious factor in predisposition to crack. Piennolo del Vesuvio has very thick skin so a cross to a high brix variety might result in a selection that is high brix and non-cracking.

Sweet Orange II by Tim Peters is sweet, doesn't crack even when our fall rains start, and keeps well till spring in a cool room.
