Hello all, new to the board. I am a small produce grower in Oregon and save and breed a little seed when practical and have been planting some TPS seed the last couple years too. My questions are around tomato breeding and how to acquire a better working knowledge of the intricacies. Any good reads or online resources? Sorry if this is rehashing old info for you all. What got me more interested in the breeding is an off type Cherokee purple plant I had a couple years ago. I have grown it out for a couple years and would like to be more effective with refining it. Anyhow it is a yellow/peach colored tomato with the Cherokee purple green shoulders. I will post a picture as soon as I sort out how to do it. Thanks for the add to the boards! William Hopefully the link below works to link to a picture of the tomato that got me all excited. m.facebook.com/351519698195443/photos/a.729541020393307.1073741829.351519698195443/943500652330675/?type=1&source=46

You can read some of the things Keith Mueller has written which will help. You have to go through page by page and check for links on each page. www.kdcomm.net/~tomato/

William of singletary farm goods, thanks for signing in as a member. I don't do a good job of welcoming new guests and members. Hopefully there will be topics and posts to read through to get some idea of the community of folks who follow my Taters and Maters goings on. With input from many people this forum is a living book so to speak. I, too, work with Cherokee Purple and many crosses and OP's of them. The picture you posted almost reminds me of Orange Flesh Purple Smudge. I picked almost 100 different kinds of tomatoes today for seed extraction and the OFPS was among them. Sometimes I request seed of special lines which are interesting and I always try to make room for including new tomatoes to either breed or observe. I usually have one or more cooperators in Oregon to trial mostly tomatoes and sometimes potatoes. I could possibly find time to visit your location www.localharvest.org/singletary-farm-goods-M43981
